The message board has an image upload facility (introduced January 2005) which allows registered message board users to include images up to 70Kb in size, in message board posts.

The simple steps below demonstrate how to do this. You will note that the images do not appear directly onto the screen unless a "download image" button is clicked. This will save on the NSRA's file download allocation (bandwidth).

---------------------------------------------------------------

Step 1:
To create a reply to an existing topic with an image included, click on the "Reply to Topic" link as shown below.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Step 1(b)
To create a new topic with an image included, click on the "New Topic" link as shown below.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Step 2
When you have typed your message, click on the "Insert a File" link as shown below.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Step 3
Click on the "Browse" button to select the file from your computer (IMPORTANT - must be under 70Kb file size).

---------------------------------------------------------------

Step 4
When you have selected the file from your computer, click on the "Upload file to ####'s post" button as shown below.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Step 5
When you get the message "the following file has been successfully received" click on the "please click here to close the window" link as shown below.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Step 6
When you see the image code added to your message, click on the "Post New Topic" button as shown below.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Step 7
Your image will not appear directly on screen but as a "Download Attachment" link as shown below.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Step 8
Clicking on the "Download Attachment link" will cause your uploaded image to open as shown below.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Step 9
If you wish to display your image on the page rather than as a 'paperclip' icon, you can edit your message and change the image code to resemble this:

Although this can use more bandwidth as each time the page is visited, ALL the images will download again rather than only the ones people click on that they haven't seen before.
Bandwidth costs the NSRA money, hence the benefits of the 'paperclip' icon method.

If required, you can open this page in a new browser window by clicking here, so that you can return to the message board and click between the two, if you need to refer to the image upload instructions.

Image resizing
If your image is too big, then you can resize it. Normally resizing an image to around 500 pixels wide will reduce it in file size suitable for posting on the message board (i.e. under 70Kb). As a guide, the illustration in Step 8 is 32kB in size and is 500 pixels wide.
(Some programmes allow you to adjust the jpg compression which will also have a bearing on file size - the image in Step 8 was created with 20% compression).

The easiest method if you have MS Office installed is as follows:
1. Find the image in Windows Explorer
2. Right click on the image
3. Select 'open with'
3. Select 'Microsoft Office Picture Manager'
4. Select 'Picture' from the top menu
5. Select 'Resize' from the dropdown menu
6. Select the radio button 'Predefined width x height:"
7. From the lookup table, select "web small (448 x 336 px)"
8. Select 'OK'
9. Select 'File' > 'Save as'

If you don't have MS Office then there are a number of freely downloadable image resizing programmes. A Google search for "image resizing free download" includes the following results:-

Generally available graphics programs also give the facility to resize (and compress) image files. PaintshopPro being a good easy-to-use example http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=Corel3/Products/Display&pfid=1047024307383&pid=1047023911984
